Video marketing is one of the hottest marketing techniques among internet marketers and is super effective. YouTube is the “king” in terms of places to go for people to watch videos on subjects they are interested in. People spend hours on end watching videos on-line, so if you haven’t implemented video marketing into your marketing arsenal then I highly suggest you start.
The one big problem you face when marketing your video on YouTube is losing your viewers to your competition. You spend all this time getting your keywords right, shooting your video, and uploading it to Youtube, only to lose your traffic to your competitors.
“What do you mean?”, you ask. Great question!
YouTube loves to cater to their viewers. So, they connect videos that are similar in content when a video ends. That’s great if they would only show YOUR content to YOUR visitors but that’s not the case. Just go over to YouTube and at the end of every video you will see that the competition has the ability to steal your visitors right from underneath your nose!
Recently, I have come across some GREAT technigues to not only STOP your competition from stealing your viewers but to elimanate the possibility of that happening and keep your viewers within your sales funnel.

It is amazing to me how many small business and marketers alike ignore the power of video. Someone that just knows a tiny bit about SEO and Video can easily dominate most niche markets. This post has some great info. Thanks.

Great tip! I had no idea you could do that with YouTube. I’ve got to put that on my list of things to do.

Hi Howard, hope you are well and thanks for the kind comments on my blog.
I read the first part of your post but unfortunately, like many other people… didn’t have time to watch a 9 minute video.
I tend to do the same as you… I’ll put an intro text as a lead in to watch a video but I don’t reveal the solution until the video.
Coming at it from a different perspective of commenting and syndicating and as a readers perspective… to watch a 9 min video would have to really motivate me.
I hope this is constructive critique… it’s really a reflection on how I see things. I’d be interested in what other people do.
Thanks

The way I see it, if someone really wants to learn the techniques they will watch the video. I know that peoples attention spans are short with busy schedules and many wont watch it. If they don’t watch it then they are missing out on some info that could help them in their business not me
I’d be interested in hearing what others think as well!
Howie, This is one of my real problems with YouTube. I had not idea there was a solution.

Hey Howie,
I feel the same way as Gavin in length of video. I thoroughly enjoy watching video as it helps me get to know the person better, but anything over 3 minutes and I’m gone. That’s my ADD kicking in I’m sure, but some of the most viewed videos on youtube are 2-3 minutes max.
For the info-junkies out there, they will definitely watch a 9 minute video if it’s very valuable content that can help them.
Regards,
Mike

Howie,
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge on the power of video and YouTube. And we agree with the others when it comes to long videos… that is one of the first things we look at when we see a video. A few minutes is ok… any longer and we don’t bother.
Thanks,

Hey Pat and Lorna, thanks for the input!
I understand keeping videos short if you are looking to get people to opt into a list from a video or keep their attention to get them to do some other call to action. People have short attention spans and I understand how shorter videos work in that respect.
There is a difference in the video I did and others videos that should be shorter. This is tutorial video and is meant to teach something. If people don’t have time to learn than it’s their loss not mine
I understand from a syndication perspective that most won’t watch a longer video but I didn’t make the video catering to that crowd.
This video is for any marketer out there looking to get an edge on YouTube and is willing to take the time to learn.
Howie, I do a lot of PPC but do post some videos on YouTube every so often. These tips were invaluable! Thank you for sharing such high quality content!

For sure Justin! Video marketing is hot and will continue for quite some time. Please love to watch and listen instead of read in out ADD society. Thanks for stopping by!
I have no idea why comments about a training video over 3-4 minutes would draw “Too long” comments when they themselves put out 30 minute optin webinars. Strange. This video was powerful and important for many to grasp and utilize the power of “You Tube” You are truly paying it forward and I commend you. Great job that I will put to use on my channel. Thanks

Thanks for some great tips there Howie, that’s neat stuff. I’ve used some of the annotations but not with the pause effect so looking forward to playing with that. I think one solution to the two long critics would have been to have split the video into two different tips. Once the first one delivered something they found new/novel the second one with a shorter introduction wouldn’t have made as many give length critiques. A solid training regardless, good stuff!

Hi Howie!
I thought this was a great tutorial! I need to go into youtube and take care of this! I appreciate that you went step by step, because I cannot follow otherwise. Shorter videos assume that I know more than I do!
For syndication purposes, if I am in your group, I listen to your video, no matter how long it is. I feel that it is my responsibility. Kim is probably on the right track regarding length. : )
Great job!

The best thing I have done is run a PPC on some of your best videos and you can ad the annotation, but more importantly you can control the Google Ad that come up! Then you can even put your video on your competitions channel. All cool stuff.
Have a great day!

Hey Howard,
Thanks for the insight on the pause button and utilizing the annotations for links back to other videos. That is certainly one of the biggest obstacles for keeping a person on your Youtube channel, however, it still does not eliminate the related videos on the column.
This will be very informative for those that take their brand seriously. I use a video marketing tool that completely allows a person to have their videos free of ad’s, competitors related videos and other distractions. For more information, visit: http://TomasKirk.com/MVTIntro
